Main Duties: Spatial Planning • Demonstrate a good understanding of the conceptual approach to spatial planning. • Prepare and develop spatial plans. • Demonstrate an understanding of the methodology, processes, and content of an IDP as set out in the Municipal Systems Act (2000), including the Spatial Development Framework. • Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for spatial planning, and its inherently strategic nature. • A clear understanding of the Spatial Planning and Land use management Act 16 of 2013. • Abe to contribute to planning policy documents and processes at different scales (Metropolitan/districts/neighbourhood/ etc). Land Use Management • Monitors land use management trends on a district level and is able to identify policy and process intervention to support achievement of the municipality’s spatial development plans. • Understands the planning context and can apply this understanding in the evaluation of building and development applications. • Makes practical recommendations to the appropriate approval structures. • Assist in the development of land use management policies and operational requirements. Information Management • The ability to scrutinize and interpret building and site plans. • Facilitate processes to identify issues and seek input, categorise, analyses and report on issues. • Advanced understanding of the nature of strategic approaches, analysis and planning. • Perform any other town planning functions as might be required.
