This is a large-scale recruitment drive for qualified medical officers to fill more than two hundred shift-based posts within the provincial health department, distributed across numerous hospitals in the Limpopo region. The roles are graded from one to three, with posts allocated across a wide range of district and regional hospitals, from major centres like Pietersburg and Mankweng to smaller facilities such as Evuxakeni and Witpoort. Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering comprehensive medical care in a hospital setting, working as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of clinical supervisors.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner and must currently maintain that registration. Experience requirements are tiered according to the grade: Grade 1 posts require less than five years of appropriate experience after registration, Grade 2 posts require a minimum of five years, and Grade 3 posts require at least ten years. Candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents. A valid driver's licence is required except for those with disabilities, and computer literacy in MS Office and virtual meeting platforms is essential. A skill declaration form must be submitted with the application.

The core duties involve providing clinical care, including emergency medicine, in designated areas, performing ward rounds, and participating in outreach programmes. Medical officers must respond to emergency calls within stipulated times, including during disasters, and maintain best practice through continuous professional development. They are expected to generate accurate medical records, participate in quality improvement programmes, conduct clinical audits, and ensure compliance with clinical protocols. Senior post holders may be required to supervise, instruct, and train medical officers and registrars. The role demands a willingness to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays, with commuted overtime approved based on operational needs.

The remuneration package is all-inclusive and graded, with a rural allowance payable as a percentage of basic salary for qualifying candidates. These positions offer an opportunity to serve in a variety of hospital settings, from urban centres to rural nodes, and require a sound understanding of medical ethics, clinical governance, and the rational use of resources. Applicants should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and data analysis skills, and the ability to work independently after hours. Any other duties allocated by the supervisor within the province may be assigned.
