This is a large-scale recruitment drive for Medical Officers in Limpopo, offering a total of 227 posts spread across Grades 1, 2, and 3, with vacancies at numerous hospitals throughout the province, including major centres such as Pietersburg, Mankweng, Tshilidzini, Lebowakgomo, and Kgapane, as well as many smaller district and rural hospitals. Successful candidates will provide comprehensive medical care within the public health sector, working as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of senior clinical staff. The role is demanding but rewarding, requiring a commitment to serving communities across the province, often in underserved areas.

To be considered, applicants must hold an appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner, and must currently be registered with the HPCSA in that capacity. Experience requirements are tiered according to the grade applied for: Grade 1 posts are for practitioners with less than five years of appropriate, recognisable experience after registration; Grade 2 requires a minimum of five years; and Grade 3 requires a minimum of ten years of post-registration experience. Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents. A valid driver’s licence is required, except for people with disabilities, and a skill declaration form must be attached to the application. The nature of the work demands willingness and ability to work shifts, flexible hours, night duty, weekends, and public holidays, as well as to perform overtime when operational needs arise. Commuted overtime may be approved on a flexi or shift system depending on departmental need and the Accounting Officer’s approval. Computer literacy, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with virtual meeting platforms, is also necessary.

The key performance areas for these posts are extensive and reflect the broad responsibilities of a Medical Officer. The successful candidate will provide clinical care, including emergency care, in designated clinical areas, commensurate with maintaining registration as a medical practitioner. Duties include performing ward rounds, participating in outreach programmes, and delivering medical services at special events or during operations anywhere in the province. Medical Officers must respond to all emergency calls within stipulated times, including disaster situations, and must maintain best clinical practice in line with quality standards. This includes staying current through the HPCSA Continuous Professional Development system Tags:
