Need "Professional nurse specialty" covers Operational Theatre, Critical Care Adult (ICU), Child Nursing (Paediatrics), Child Critical Care Nursing (ICU), Trauma, Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Renal. Candidates must hold a basic R425 qualification, either a diploma or degree in nursing, or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse. In addition, a post-basic nursing qualification in one of the recognised specialty disciplines is required, with a minimum duration of one year and accredited by the SANC. Current registration with the SANC in the appropriate specialty is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, candidates need at least four years of appropriate or recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a professional nurse in general nursing. For Grade 2, the requirement is a minimum of fourteen years of appropriate experience, including ten years in the relevant specialty after obtaining the post-basic qualification. These are PN-B1 graded sessional appointments, and the sessional remuneration is determined according to the approved sessional rates, based on appropriate and recognisable experience after registration with the SANC as set out by the Department of Public Service and Administration.
The core responsibilities include directing and supervising the implementation of nursing care plans to ensure quality patient care; practising nursing and healthcare in line with professional standards, quality indicators, legislation and regulations; working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team; and using human, material and physical resources efficiently and effectively. Successful candidates must be prepared to work shifts, flexible hours, weekends, public holidays and overtime when needed. They should also possess sound knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures in their chosen specialty, along with good communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking and problem-solving skills. Information management skills and computer literacy are also required.
These positions are intended to build a sessional professional nurse database, allowing hospitals to draw on qualified specialists as needs arise. Applicants should therefore note the sessional nature of the posts and the requirement to serve in a particular hospital and specialty area. The wide range of participating hospitals means opportunities are spread across both rural and urban parts of Limpopo, making this an important option for specialised nurses seeking flexible, hourly-based work within the provincial health system.
