This sessional appointment opportunity invites qualified professional nurses to apply for specialty nursing posts at multiple public hospitals in Limpopo province. The positions are structured as Professional Nurse: Specialty, graded PN-B1 at Grade 1 to Grade 2, and are offered on a sessional basis of up to twenty one-hour sessions per week. A parallel sessional stream is also available for Professional Nurses with Midwifery, graded from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Appointments are made on the basis of DPSA-approved sessional rates, which recognise the nurse’s post-registration experience with the South African Nursing Council. The posts form part of the Provincial Sessional Nursing Database, allowing hospitals to draw on specialist capacity as service needs arise.

Specialty disciplines include Operating Theatre nursing, Critical Care Adult (ICU), Child Nursing (Paediatrics), Child Critical Care Nursing (ICU), Trauma, Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Renal nursing. These specialties are required at Pietersburg and Mankweng Hospitals in Capricorn District, Letaba Hospital in Mopani District, St Ritas and Philadelphia Hospitals in Sekhukhune District, Tshilidzini Hospital in Vhembe District, and Mokopane Hospital in Waterberg District. The midwifery stream covers a considerably broader network, including hospitals such as Elim, Siloam, Donald Frazer, Malamulele, Messina, Louis Trichardt, Ellisras, Witpoort, Warmbaths, FH Odendaal/MDR TB, George Masebe, Thabazimbi, Voortrekker, Helene Franz, Seshego, WF Knobel, Botlokwa, Lebowakgomo, Zebediela, Pietersburg-Mankweng Complex, Thabamoopo, Nkhensani, Dr CN Phatudi, Maphutha L Malatjie, Kgapane, Sekororo, Van Velden, Letaba and Evuxakeni.

To qualify for the specialty posts, applicants must hold a minimum basic R425 qualification, namely a Diploma or Degree in Nursing or equivalent that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. They must also have a post-basic nursing qualification in one of the listed specialty areas, with a minimum duration of one year and accredited with the SANC, except for Neonatal ICU nursing. Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in the appropriate specialty is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience after registration in General Nursing is required. For Grade 2, applicants need at least fourteen years of such experience, of which ten years must be in the relevant specialty after obtaining the post-basic qualification. The midwifery stream
